MEASURING FOR RESULTS:RESULTS-BASED MANAGEMENT, MONITORING AND EVALUATION
WHAT IS RBM?
RBM is a management strategy for improved project effectiveness leading to better outcomes for our target communities and beneficiaries. RBM involves everyone - donors, managers, M&E staff, project staff, extension workers - to ensure that everything the project does contributes the desired results. Key aspects of RBM are performance monitoring - monitoring progress towards results - and data flow / feedback loops to ensure information flows smoothly through the project and action is taken on what is learned.
WHAT WILL YOU LEARN?
The training has three main objectives. You will:
Understand the philosophy and principles of RBM - and it is a philosophy, encouraging us to look at and approach things differently to ensure results are achieved for target communities.
Develop a thorough, practical understanding of the Logical Framework Approach (LFA), which underpins the RBM approach.
Be able to use RBM and LFA through project identification, design, planning, implementing, monitoring and evaluation.
WHAT SKILLS WILL YOU GAIN?
The course is extremely practical and task-based, and you will produce three major pieces of work. These are:
- A project designed from scratch - you will analyse your own selected issue and target population and build a unique project
- An M&E Toolkit - the M&E manager's master document, to collect and store information on all indicators and manage up-to-date tools for each indicator
- The M&E Plan, which describes the project, its indicators and how data will flow - its collection, analysis and communication
